THE PLATFORM IN ACTION

Senior Interaction Designer

​Role: Manage timelines, resources, and communication across multiple teams/stakeholders, UI Design, UX Design, Visual Design, Branding and Identity, maintain project documentation.
​
Product: Platform that allows one to create VR/AR experiences for use in business communication. A Vv (digital object) can be created by anyone on a team, utilizing 360° or 180° images, standard panoramas taken on your smart phone, or high fidelity models generated in any building information modeling software.
Engineers, stakeholders, architects, designers, and contractors can all meet in virtual reality ​synchronously or asynchronously to discuss projects and make decisions.

Result: Successful deployment, utilized by one the most innovative global architecture firms, NBBJ, and  national leader in designing, constructing, operating and maintaining high-performing buildings, McKinstry.

Objective
Initial research revealed the Architectural and Construction industries use a large amount of resources dedicated to facilitating necessary collaboration on large scale projects.

​Visual Vocal's objective was to create a business communication tool that utilized the power of AR/VR technology to increase productivity and ease of communication in these industries. 
Facilitating a more effective collaboration, review and approval process offered architects, designers and all stakeholders on a project a cost effective, synchronously, asynchronously, and time saving alternative to meeting in person across multiple timezones

​Process
To begin, in-depth collaboration with partners NBBJ revealed the main pain points for global teams working together on a project. 

The specific goals were to:
  • Examine and reduce the time spent physically traveling to meet in person.
  • Examine and reduce the cost of travel.
  • Examine and reduce the cost of preparing to travel with physical models and samples.
  • Enhance review opportunities and reduce turn-around times particularly for simple feedback.
  • Allow architects, designers and stakeholders the opportunity to see environments that didn’t exists yet, as well as systems that were hidden behind walls.
  • Enhance review experience for stakeholders and the depth of feedback for architects and designers providing all the opportunity be inside an environment.

Studies revealed high interest from experts in the field to use this software as an alternative/additional tool.

As Design Lead and Senior Interaction Designer, I collaborated with Head of Design, Engineering and the CTO to analyze the data, synthesize study results, identify personas, and maintain alignment with business objectives in order to move forward with data-informed wireframes to begin.

The design process included multiple, live, in-app and asynchronous user studies providing fresh data on usability and testing throughout product development.

Results
The Visual Vocal platform beta was successfully deployed and utilized by one the most innovative global architecture firms, NBBJ. It was also adopted by select teams from the national leader in designing, constructing, operating and maintaining high-performing buildings, McKinstry.

Metrics showed the beta version of the platform was incorporated into the tool chain of 7% of teams at NBBJ. Data also revealed an increase in savings for travel expenses, along with NBBJ's plan to expand usage into additional teams.

​Create, Collaborate, Edit, Share, Annotate, Record
The cloud-based framework supported features for rapidly authoring, editing, and sharing light fields, annotation, markup, and context.
​
​The Visual Vocal app utilizes ground breaking audio signature technology ("Sonic Pairing") and/or a unique 7-digit code, to connect collaborators synchronously or asynchronously in an AR/VR experience. 
​
Content can be password protected for security and collaborators can record and listen to audio feedback from team mates in VR.

Responsibilities
Design Lead, UX/UI, and Visual Designer, owning the end-to-end user experience. Work closely with the Engineering Team, the CTO and CEO.
  • Conceptualize the product, for both mobile and web.
  • Project planning, maintain and reach milestones and releases 
  • Evaluate resources and tool chain
  • Generate wire-frames mapping the UI and UX design, for both mobile and web.
  • Present wireframes and user-flow studies to the engineering and the executive team.
  • Create initial visual design mock-ups for both mobile and web that follow brand guidelines and scale across platforms.
  • Finalize the visual design, for both mobile and web.
  • Write detailed specification and create final assets for the Engineering Team.
  • Participate in all QA sessions.
  • Iterate on all changes and all subsequent app updates.

Responsibilities:
  • Conceptualize the product branding and identity.
  • Work closely with the Design Director.
  • Iterate on logo studies.
  • Iterate on color palette studies.
  • Finalize overall branding and identity elements (logo, logo mark, color palette, typography).
  • Create detailed Brand Guidelines for internal and external use.
  • Create custom branded Homido VR Lenses.
  • Create custom Visual Vocal branded Homido Kits, as well as custom branded kits for SDK clients.
  • Create all marketing material, video storyboards and visual design for anything Visual Vocal brand related.
